Happy Monday!

21 Nov

Wow it’s been a while, huh?

Seems that a lot and nothing has happened since I last blogged. I’m still working at my internship, dating Andy and doing getting my master’s degree.

Update on the arrival of our puppy: Mid-late December. *cross fingers!*

Today’s blog will be about Andy and I’d trip to Orlando 1 1/2 weeks ago for a wedding. It was his friend for college’s wedding and Andy was elected groomsman #3 out of 5.

Thursday

7 a.m. We arrive at the airport with his other college buddies, belly up to the bar and indulge in bloody marys. Our flight is scheduled for 8 a.m.

8 a.m. Flight delayed. Mechanical issues they knew about since the night before but just started working on right now. It’s fine, we order more booze and start playing cards…drinking games really.

11 a.m. Flight delayed until noon. Now we’re pissed. The boys are going to miss the grooms dinner/rehearsal because Sun Country decided to get their ish together 12 hours after they knew there was a problem? At this point, we’re losing our buzz and becoming hungover and hungry.

12:10 p.m. Board plane. They serve us steamed hot dogs. *Disgusting*

3:30 p.m. Arrive in Orlando, rent our car, head for hotel.

5 p.m. Sit down at Applebee’s for more booze and dinner. We then go to the hotel’s tiki bar, drink some more, play pool, hit the hot tub. At this point I’ve been sober, drunk, hungover, sober, drunk and now ready to pass out. The boys go drunk mini golfing and drinking while us girls pass out in the hotel.

Friday – Day of wedding

10 a.m. Drive 1 1/2 hours to The Villages, Florida…a retirement community where the wedding will be held.

3 p.m. Wedding. Nice, quaint. The boys got to drive golf carts to the reception. Doesn’t Andy look good!?

5 p.m. Drunk. This bartender sure made my whiskey cokes heavy.

7 p.m. Eating, still drunk. Enjoying the outdoor reception.

9 p.m. Reception over. Apparently you can’t have a reception past 9 o’clock in a retirement community because they’re all going to bed. WTF!? We’re drunk and ready to party!

10 p.m. Check out of The Villages hotel, pile into cars and drive back to Orlando for more boozing and debauchery.

Saturday

Spent the day at Sea World. So much fun!

Sunday

Went to the American Police Hall of Fame to see all the cool old cop memorabilia, buy some souvenirs and pay tribute to those Officers who lost their lives on duty.

We then drove up the coast (literally, on the beach driving) until we hit the Daytona Beach boardwalk. We played in the ocean, sunk our toes in the sand and had dinner at a cute diner on the beach.

When we got back to our hotel, we decided to go and play some mini golf on our last night. I got 2 holes in 1. No big deal over here.

Monday

Plane departs on time, we land safely in Minneapolis and drive home to unpack and pass out.

All-in-all a great vacation! One thing I learned: don’t expect to party all night if a wedding is in a retirement community.

Hope all of you are doing well. I miss you. I promise to write more (I say that a lot don’t I?)

Songs that get me going

9 Nov

There are certain songs we all hear that awaken our hearts and get us all jacked up.

Below are a list of songs that I love to workout to/feel inspired by:

Jordin Sparks – Battlefield
Cascada – Evacuate the Dancefloor
Linkin Park – Bleed it Out
Kelly Clarkson – Miss Independent
Kanye West – Good Life
MIA – Paper Planes

What are your favorite songs to motivate?

23 Oct

Today i’m linking up with Cinnamon for Tiki Sunday. You should link up too! No rules…just blog and link!

Ho-ly crap.

Tomorrow I start my marketing internship. What a whirlwind of a fall.

  • I didn’t get into the MBA program that I had been taking prerequisite classes for 1 year for.
  • I didn’t get the internship at Haberman that I thought I nailed during the interview (which, by the way, I never heard from them even after calling them…how rude).
  • I got cut from my money-making bartending shifts because some people decided to pull seniority, even after they constantly call me to the bar and ask how to make certain drinks (if you can’t make a long island, you shouldn’t bartend).

Then…

  • I got accepted into the Strategic Communications Management masters program and am loving it! I learned that the MBA program was not for me. I’m not looking for bland accounting and economics classes. My creative mind just couldn’t handle that.
  • Thanks to the masters program, I was able to attain an internship with a fellow student at Frontier Communications. It’ll be a 45 minute drive in each direction for me, daily. And it may not be the company of my dreams, but I’ve been searching for this opportunity since 2008 and it’s about damn time. I’m anxious and thrilled to start tomorrow!
  • Due to the internship, I changed my availability at the golf course so that I don’t have to deal with their petty politics and seniority-trumping style scheduling.

I have to say, my weddings planning business has definitely been set on the back burner. I was creating an opportunity for myself since I was so sick of applying for jobs and internships with no bites. A girl can only take rejection for so long before she molds her own path. I haven’t forgotten about it but I do believe it will be completely on hold while I do this year-long internship along with school and furthering my relationship with Andy.

It’s been a crazy last few months and I can only foresee life getting busier and more out-of-control…this truly is the start of something magical and I’m thrilled to share it with you all! Though I may not blog as often as I used to, I appreciate your patience and support!

Today I will be doing homework, running some errands and preparing my outfit and lunch for tomorrow’s first day! I’ll also be watching my precious MN Vikings get dominated by the Packers. As much as I have faith in my Vikes, I also am realistic and know when we’ve met our match. This season has turned into a joke and the sooner they get rid of McNabb (who is not playing today) the sooner we can turn the team around from being a “nursing home” joke. Ugh. Anyway…Skol Vikings!

Fashion venture, week 2

23 Oct

It may be Saturday night…but I do have to brag about my outfits this week.

On Tuesday, Melissa and I took cues from a photo I chose from Banana Republic to dress ourselves.

Here’s the pic prompt:

Here is my outfit on Tuesday:

My outfit is a combination of Banana Republic and Express.

Here’s a close-up of my scarf:

And I also want to brag about me and Andy’s date night. He took me to dinner downtown Minneapolis and then to the Guthrie Theatre to see Much Ado About Nothing. It was fantastic and we had an amazing time. We then joined his coworkers at a local bar for drinks and dancing. And to top it all off, I must say I looked damn hot that night. I went beyond my comfort zone and wore a beautiful red dress from Express (on sale!) and BCBG nude pumps (that I had to bandaid my feet BEFORE I put them on to avoid staining them in blood). Check me out:

I bet you didn’t know I was THIS into my appearances. Well…I admit I’m vain. I enjoy the beauty of a sunset just as much as I enjoy the beauty of a Coach purse. Though, I don’t own a Coach purse and realistically I don’t spend that much money on my clothes and accessories. I buy on sale and I have a lot of cheap stuff versus a few expensive things. I also have a lot of credit card debt. *sigh* Such is the life of a 20-something waitress-wannabe-wedding planner.

Anyway, I start my internship on Monday and I have homework due before class even begins so I’m off to read and write and sleep. Happy weekend!

What I don’t want at my wedding

15 Oct

As you may already know, I bartend at weddings at a golf course here in Minnesota.

I see it all.

Bad weddings, good weddings, beautiful weddings and tacky weddings.

Tonight is a mix of all of the above and it makes me think about all of the things I DON’T want for my wedding.

The DJ is playing songs that I despise such as “the chicken dance” and “the hokey pokey”. Um, no.

The food was a buffet style all the way down to a water station, coffee station and soda station. I want plated meals.

The guest list is made up of mostly older generation with some younger guests mixed in. Everyone has left by now minus the few drunk people. I want a great time and will definitely invite people who know how to have a blast…people who know how to truly celebrate.

I’m not knocking this wedding because they’ve had some great and beautiful aspects…but it’s clear they cut costs and I’m the kind of person that finds a wedding to be the most important night of your life, so it should be done right.

Maybe that’s the wedding planner in me :)

What do you like and dislike when going to a wedding??

Fashion venture

13 Oct

Everyone knows (and tries not to accept) that the average human being judges others based on appearance.

In an effort to be taken more seriously in life and in my profession/classroom, I have embarked on a unique way of forcing myself to dress better.

My bestie Melissa has a fashion blog where she takes challenges from other fashion blogs (or creates her own) in an effort to dress better, feel better and utilize all of the stuff in her closet. Feeling inspired, I approached her during our traditional Tuesday evening after-class-glass-of-wine meetings asking to join her.

Starting this week, we’ll be posting our “inspiration” photo regarding out Tuesday outfit then posting a picture of our interpretation.

If you don’t really know what I mean, check out her blog or look below at the pictures.

Inspiration photo:

Our interpretation:

I can tell you two things about this picture. I have a lot of work to do as far as my interpretations go. And I also need a haircut in the worst way.

Stop the madness!

9 Oct

I. Can’t. Stop. Watching. Television. And. Wasting. Time.

Seriously.

I’m kind of enjoying the mind-numbing-ness of cable TV but I’ve been sitting on writing a 7-page paper for the last 2 weeks and I have yet to start it. It’s due Tuesday. I’m seriously irritated but at the same time, I can’t shut off the damn TV!

So tomorrow my plan is to go to the library. That’s where people do important things and I should join them :)

Love you all. Wish I would update with more awesomeness but really I’ve been doing nothing but working, going to class and watching TV. Hope your life is more fun than mine! :)

Freaky Friday

30 Sep

Andy and I went Halloween shopping yesterday and you probably think it’s too early. But around here, if you don’t buy now, you’re shit out of luck. Come mid-October you’re stuck in an XL naughty nurse outfit or hitting Goodwill and being a hobo…again. People take this holiday seriously here in MN.

This year we decided to do a couples costume. Since he’s a cop I thought I was being clever by us dressing as cop (me) and prisoner (him). He didn’t like it. Then I suggested pilot (him) and slutty stewardess (me). Nope.

We finally settled on Red Riding Hood and the big bad wolf! I bought a nice long red cloak and am trying to piece together clothes and accessories I already have to complete the outfit. Every year I wear thigh-high black pleather boots and am excited to bust them out again! I know red riding hood wore a white-ish dress under her red robe because she was an innocent little thing running to Grandma’s house but I don’t have anything white or partially white to wear so I’m at a loss of whether to buy more clothes or improvise with a red bustier I already own and some black stockings.

Eiether way, a slutty outfit is my pride and joy every year and I’m not ashamed of that. Last year I went as slutty Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family and won a sexy costume contest (it is also my best costume to date). Someday when I’m 80 I can look back and feel like I took advantage of my young body before it was too late. Haha.

What are you going to be for Halloween this year??

29 Sep

Instead of droning on and on about why I haven’t blogged in the last 2 weeks, I’m just going to tell you right here and right now: By the time I accomplish 1 thing on my to-do list, 3 things have replaced it.

I went on vacation with Andy this past weekend to surprise visit one of my best friends since junior high school, Danielle. She lives in a hippie college town called Ashland in Oregon. It was amazing. The weather was perfect, you can walk EVERYWHERE and the scenery was worth a thousand pictures. Our first day was spent touring the vineyards in the countryside during the day and cruising the local brewery/bars in the evening. Our second day was spent walking the town’s local shops and making dinner. Dinner consisted of homemade everything. Homemade ravioli, homemade pesto cream sauce, homemade spicy sausage meatballs and sauteed veggies from her garden including mushrooms, spinach, onions and tomatoes. We complemented the meal with a bottle of wine that we purchased at our favorite vineyard from the day before. We then busted out a bottle of tequila and their Wii to play some games late into the night. The following morning we packed up, drove to Portland (about 4.5 hours from Ashland) to have sushi from a conveyer belt! Click here to check out what Sushi Land is all about. We then jumped on a plane and headed back home!

The vacation was incredible, to say the least. I have never slept better on an air mattress, never felt more relaxed nor cared what was going on in the world. All of this without one puff of marijuana (haha). It was just me, a dear friend and our boyfriends enjoying each others company.

Now I’m back to spending HOURS avoiding homework with my DVR’d shows (which I have to mention, if you haven’t caught the new show Playboy Club, do it. It’s fantastic. Same with the show Revenge).

I’ve missed all of you and promise to post pictures in the next few days. For now, here’s a taste:

And if you haven’t seen the new commercial for Google Chrome featuring Lady Gaga…you MUST watch this. It inspires me. It makes me smile to watch the dedication of her fans and the social influence she’s created on all of us. Though I think she’s bat shit crazy…there’s a lot to learn from her ways. There’s a method to the madness. Watch below to see what I mean:
